Special Events Internship Marbles Kids Museum is a vibrant, nonprofit children's museum and IMAX Theatre located in the heart of downtown Raleigh. Marbles has been sparking imagination, discovery, and learning through play since opening its doors in 2007. Marbles' serves a diverse population of families, school groups, and community organizations through award-winning play-based exhibits, summer camps, IMAX documentaries, feature movies, and special events year-round. Today Marbles ranks among the top family destinations in North Carolina providing learning experiences for children with creative programs, and larger-than-life movies.
THE OPPORTUNITY Marbles Special Events Team is responsible the planning and successful execution of Marbles family, 21 and over, and fundraising events. During Marbles' events, Guests enjoy an extraordinary experience featuring spectacular decor, creative eats & drinks, themed play and exciting games.
We are seeking a Special Events Intern looking for the opportunity to contribute to the planning, coordination, and execution of Marbles' 2024 Fall events such as Imagination Ball, Kooky Spooky, Evening with Elves, and Gingerbread Jamboree. During your internship, you'll embark on a journey of learning and growth, delving into event management practices and gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic setting. This opportunity will allow you to develop essential skills in communication, organization, problem-solving, and teamwork, equipping you for success in your future endeavors.
This is an unpaid internship. Essential Job Responsibilities - Support the development of event concepts and themes by collaborating with the team to generate creative ideas that are unique and memorable for attendees.
- Assist with sourcing vendors and suppliers for events.
- Participate in planning and post-event evaluation meetings.
- Assist with the management of preplanning tasks.
- Support the gathering and organization of feedback and help recommend improvements.
- Assist with venue setup and strike, catering arrangements, and equipment rentals.
- Help create an enjoyable experience for event attendees by assisting with setup and restocking of dcor, food, drinks, and activities, guiding guests and promptly resolving issues.
- Other duties assigned by the manager.
Experience and Skill Requirements - Must be enrolled in a formal education class that requires an internship for academic credit.
- Studying Hospitality, Event Planning, or related field preferred.
- 6+ months of experience in event planning, hospitality, customer service or related field preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Superb time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to respond to problems and assist clients in a calm, courteous and helpful manner.
- Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Physical Demands - Walking, standing for extended periods, stooping, bending.
- Moving equipment, pushing/pulling carts, carrying heavy items.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
Work Environment - Conditions sometimes involving low light, flashing lights, and loud noises.
- Occasional hot or cold outdoor environments.
Schedule - This is an unpaid internship. We are looking for a commitment of 10 hours per week through the fall semester (August-December).
- Availability on Tuesday mornings, weekends, and evenings is highly preferred.
- Potential special events dates include 10/4, 10/25, 12/6, and 12/13.
- Interns are expected to predominantly work in-person at Marbles, with some flexibility to complete tasks remotely as appropriate.
