Position Summary As an R&D Manager at Mactac, you will be at the forefront of innovation in film products for the roll label industry. Your role will involve leading a talented team of technicians and engineers in the development of new products and the enhancement of existing ones. Your expertise will guide the research and development process from ideation to execution, ensuring that Mactac leads the industry.
Duties & Responsibilities - Develop Spartanburg R&D into a Film Center of Excellence for Mactac with cross-functional and corporate support of the strategic initiative.
- Leads a team R&D professionals and has primary responsibility for Spartanburg Roll Label R&D.
- Ensure safety of lab team and drive continuous improvements in Mactac laboratories.
- Manage the product development Stage-Gate for your team from conceptualization and prototyping to testing and market launch.
- Assigns resources to prioritized projects and provides coaching on project management and technical solutions. Additionally plan and lead projects your own projects to support the department needs.
- Foster a culture of innovation and learning within the team, encouraging creative thinking and problem-solving.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, and production, to ensure cohesive product development and rollout.
- Drive continuous improvement of product lines by incorporating feedback and emerging trends into the R&D process.
- Mentor, develop, and supervise staff, providing opportunities for professional growth and ensuring accountability for team deliverables.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation and effectively communicate research findings, product specifications, and project statuses.
- Acts as a technical and professional resource and coach for Engineers, Scientists, and Technicians with multiple areas of technical expertise.
- Represent Mactac at industry conferences, seminars, and networking events to showcase our R&D capabilities and forge strategic partnerships.
Scope: - Decision Impact: Site-level decisions and decisions impacting roll label

- Reports Relationships:
- Position Reports to (Direct): Director of New Product Development
- Positions Supervised (Direct): 2-6 Product Engineers and/or Technicians
- Physical Requirements:
- Works in an office, lab, and manufacturing environment.
- Flexible hours may be required to accommodate meetings, training, etc.
- Prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory in all laboratory and manufacturing areas.
- Lift up to 50 lbs
- Location: Spartanburg, SC

Knowledge & Skill Needed: - Education:
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM Field.
- Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in Material Science, Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering preferred.
- Lean Six Sigma, Design for Six Sigma Green or Black belt preferred.
- Experience:
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in film-based labels and adhesives or film-based label stock research and development.
- Proven leadership skills in managing, developing, and growing technical staff required.
- Excellent project management skills, with a track record of leading successful innovation projects.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively across departments and with customers.
- Experience with printing or converting labels preferred.
- Minimum 2 years in a management role and leading a team is preferred and a desire to lead and develop R&D staff is required.
- Advanced Microsoft Office and Statistical Analysis software experience required
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills
