Job Description

Position Summary

Under direct supervision, the Staff Podiatrist is responsible for the standard of care in Podiatric outpatient services for all patients with Washoe Tribal Health. Provides guidance and participates in continuous quality improvement. Participates in efforts to achieve and maintain accreditation. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Graduation from an accredited Podiatric Medical School.
  2. Current unrestricted medical licensure from any state within the United States.
  3. Must be specialty board certified or eligible; may substitute significant primary care experience in excess of 5 years.
  4. Must be insurable through the Tribe’s medical malpractice carrier.

Responsibilities

  1. Supervises assigned Medical Assistants in the setting of assigned provider care teams.
  2. Provides Podiatric care to all patients with Washoe Tribal Health, its satellite clinics, or at designated Washoe Tribal functions.
  3. Conducts Podiatric history and physical examinations.
  4. Provides competent assessment of acute and chronic Podiatric problems.
  5. Respects and maintains awareness of Washoe Tribal culture.
  6. Performs, orders, and/or interprets laboratory tests and imaging studies.
  7. Continually strives to achieve target number of patient encounters as determined by the Executive Director and Chief Medical Officer.
  8. Completes medical documentation in a timely fashion.
  9. Assists to secure and maintain accreditation through the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
  10. Motivates and leads the medical team in daily clinic operations and provision of quality medical care.
  11. Participates and provides sound input and guidance to Washoe Tribal Health workgroups, programs, and committees in efforts to improve health care delivery.
  12. Maintains current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  13. Maintains continuing medical education per licensure requirements.
  14. Complies with applicable Federal, State, and Tribal laws, codes, and regulations.
  15. Assists in securing related licensing and additional licensing as needed.

Knowledge and Skills

  1. Knowledge of a Tribal community clinical setting and demonstrates the ability to be sensitive to and work with Native Americans.
  2. Knowledge of current principles and practices of Podiatric medicine.
  3. Knowledge of HIPAA and how it pertains to the medical record.
  4. Knowledge of clinic medical programs.
  5. Knowledge of current management principles and practices including supervision and personnel management.
  6. Knowledge and management of the medical practice finances and revenue generation.
  7. Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and regulations including established professional standards.
  8. Ability to demonstrate competence as a Podiatrist to read and interpret radiographs.
  9. Ability to instruct patients and members of the clinical staff in Podiatric care.
  10. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and other personnel.
  11. Ability to represent the organization professionally, building respect and confidence.
  12. Ability to provide leadership.
  13. Ability to analyze and problem-solve.
  14. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  15. Skill in operating business computers and office machines in a Windows environment, specifically MS365, Word, Excel, Teams, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; occasionally is required to operate a motor vehicle; stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Work is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level.

Hiring Preferences

Hiring preference is provided to members of the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California followed by members of other federally recognized tribes. Must pass and comply with the PL101.630-Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Protection Act. Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California requires any designated candidate to complete a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening, must possess a valid NV or CA driver license within thirty (30) days of employment (when applicable) and PL 101-630 Criminal/Character Investigation background check.
