Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Physician Assistant provides healthcare services including tentative diagnosis and treatment of injuries under the supervision of Dr. Seiter to provide patients physical, mental and occupational rehabilitation.

This is a full-time position, with on-call and weekend hours required occasionally. This position offers medical, dental, and vision benefits, as well as an employer sponsored 401K plan, and long-term and short-term disability. CME funds are also available annually.

This is a seasonal position - October 1 through April 30th

THE DETAILS OF THE JOB

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct physical examinations using medical instruments and equipment to assess mobility and strength. Assess characteristics of patients' pain such as intensity, location, or duration using standardized clinical measures.
  • Administer or order tests, analyses, and diagnostic images, and analyze reports and findings of tests and of examination.
  • Oversee maintenance of case histories, health examination reports, and other medical records.
  • Propose diagnosis of condition, and administer or prescribe treatments, drugs and rehabilitation, as applicable, under the supervision of a Physician.
  • Attend to patients in the clinic or hospital, and reexamine disability cases periodically to verify progress. Provide instructions and education regarding medications and treatment.
  • Monitor effectiveness of pain management interventions such as medication or spinal injections.
  • Document examination results, treatment plans, and patients' outcomes in a timely manner and within HCFA guidelines and audit requirements.
  • Triage patient telephone calls, provide consultation and document as necessary in medical record.
  • Provide monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
  • Assist in operating room with patient set-up, surgical procedure and PACU orders and care, demonstrating competency and exactness.
  • Use proper infection control procedures adopted by affiliated Surgery Centers and hospitals.
  • Meet the Company's expectations as described in the VSON Policies and Practices.
  • Maintain confidentiality of Personal Identifiable Information (PII) in accordance with company Policies and State and Federal laws, including OHSA and HIPAA regulations.
  • Perform job in accordance with all company safety practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the information, techniques and equipment needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
  • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to use deductive reasoning to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense, as well as inductive reasoning to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
  • Knowledge of medical safety hazards and precautions, and skill in applying principles of asepsis and infection control.
  • Ability to communicate with different audiences in a simple, clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with strict deadlines.
  • Ability to identify when confidentiality, discretion and judgment are needed, and exhibit these traits appropriately.
  • Ability to use information technology including email and web navigation, and Microsoft Suite programs.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATES

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program required.
  • Minimum three years' experience in orthopaedic surgery required.
  • Current Colorado P.A. license in good standing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS

This job operates in a medical office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

This role may have frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

Work may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant and may be interruptive. Contact involves dealing with injured people who may be angry or upset with their situation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The position is very physical and requires standing for long periods of time, stooping, bending, stretching, and supporting of patients' body weight.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. It is necessary to view a computer monitor for medium periods of time.

Duties require manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard and mouse, operate a calculator, telephone, copier, scanner and other office equipment as necessary.
