The PGY-2 Investigational Drugs and Research residency program at Baptist Hospital/Miami Cancer Institute is a 52-week training program that provides specialized training and experiences in clinical research. The purpose of the program is to develop well-rounded Investigational Drug Service pharmacists and effective clinical instructors who can provide high-level clinical care in in the research setting, effectively share their knowledge, and promote learning among students and other residents. The focus of this residency program is to provide exposure to the regulatory and operational requirements that govern clinical research and to cultivate skills necessary to provide clinical care to research participants in the medical oncology and hematologic setting. The training is coordinated to allow residents to master the competencies established within the ASHP practice standards for the PGY-2 residency in Investigational Drugs and Research. Residents will develop expertise in implementing and managing clinical trials, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to promote safe and effective patient care, and advancing pharmacy practice within the clinical research enterprise. In addition, residents will develop skills in leadership, research and teaching through projects, staff education and co-precepting PGY1 residents and pharmacy students. After completion of this program, the graduating resident will have the critical skills, clinical abilities, and leadership experiences to function independently as a specialized practitioner in the research setting. Candidates for this residency must possess a Pharm.D. degree from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy and Florida licensure (or eligible); in addition, they must have successfully completed an ASHP accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency (certificate required). Applicants are required to submit the following documents: a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, official transcripts, and three letters of recommendation from professional references utilizing standard form required by PhORCAS.
