Design Engineer for Superconducting Electronics (Entry Level)

Imec USA's Florida-based R&D Center develops new sustainable technologies addressing the growing energy needs of data centers, AI and high-performance computing. Superconducting digital technology is one of the potential new solutions to deliver data center-scale compute power at 100x better energy efficiency in small-volume systems. Leveraging imec core expertise in semiconductor scaling, heterogeneous integration, and system development, imec is pioneering superconducting solutions for decentralized, autonomous AI systems enabling revolutionary AI architectures with unique capabilities.
Imec USA is seeking a motivated and talented early career ASIC design engineer for superconducting circuits. The position offers you a unique opportunity to work with a full stack cross-site development team integrated across Kissimmee, Florida and Leuven, Belgium. We are working on all aspects of this new digital technology, from developing a new superconducting process using state-of-the-art 300mm silicon wafer BEOL technology to circuit design, system architecture, and software optimization.
Here's what you'll do:
- Developing new innovative solutions for digital circuits using superconducting materials and devices.
- Perform simulations and physical design of the superconducting circuits.
- Perform digital and physical electronic design.
- Provide creative new insights for EDA tool development.
- Contribute to tapeout and testing of various test vehicles and circuits.
- Perform hardware-to-model correlation and data analysis.
- Contribute to architectural development and specifications.
- Contribute to publications in international journals and conferences.
- Support execution of the public and commercial contracts.
Key Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics, or Bachelor's degree with equivalent experience.
- Strong knowledge of digital or mixed signal circuit design.
- Strong background in electrical and RF engineering.
- Strong programming skills with experience in MATLAB or Python.
- Fluency in digital design tools such as Cadence, Synopsys, Ansys.
Additional Qualifications
- Familiarity with fabrication process and tapeout procedure.
- Experience with circuit digital test or RF test.
- Good communication skills for interfacing with internal and external customers.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently, while being part of a team.
- Pragmatic and hands on, with a can-do attitude.
- Experience working in R&D environments.
