This job is primarily responsible for supporting business and regulatory compliance functions and administering property and cargo claims. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, manage carrier compliance- activities to ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and business policies and practices, analyze data to identify and report on trends, and overseeing timely and proper settlement of property and cargo claims in accordance with insurance coverage terms and conditions and providing related operational and legal support.
In this job, you will:
* Provide compliance assistance to all locations by acting as a liaison to internal staff, providing guidance and responding to requests for data and other compliance-related information.
* Ensure compliance with company and/or regulatory policies and practices by performing activities such as tracking, reporting and auditing of internal activities and vendors to ensure internal policy and/or regulatory compliance; maintain requirements for all locations; may summarize and present information to help maintain a safe and effective work environment and assist others with understanding of operational items.
* Support compliance with regulatory agency(ies) by gathering information, assisting in the preparation of various document and reports, tracking and maintaining records as required.
* Manage the carrier vetting and monitoring program.
* Manages carrier contract agreements, addendums and reviews appointment paperwork to determine if contract terms are acceptable; maintains documentation for carrier supplemental compensation contracts and licensing records in accordance with carrier regulations.
* Advise management on compliance with laws and regulations; stay up to date on industry news related to broker liability.
* Create and administer effective action plans in response to audit discoveries and compliance violations; work with local and regional operations and compliance on contingency reconciliation.
* Establish and develop relationships and partnerships with internal and external groups; to facilitate close working relationships between groups.
* Work with management to process, manage, and maintain incoming reports of accidents and incidents; conduct, coordinate and assist in investigations as applicable.
* Work directly with various parties to resolve claims or other issues; research and evaluate claims and evidence to determine best approach for resolution and execute through until claims are closed.
* Ensure complete and sound claim settlements, legal reviews and investigations in accordance with company policy and procedures; including coordination of accounting functions.
* Develop and maintain functional expertise to exercise independent judgement in methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining and analyzing data.
* Travel and work at various locations, including occasional multi-day travel as needed.

Required - High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* General knowledge and understanding of the maritime industry, including, stevedoring, barge and boat operations, and fleeting.
* General knowledge of insurance and claims terminology.
* General knowledge and understanding of company operations including accounting functions impacted by freight transactions.
* Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization (e.g. insurance brokers, adjusters, legal counsel and other third parties).
* Intermediate computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
* Strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills; with ability to remain flexible to changing priorities.
* Ability to perform responsibilities self-directed.
* Ability to interpret and disseminate applicable regulatory requirements and changes (e.g. OSHA, EPA, Coast Guard).
* Ability to effectively build and influence relationships both internally and with external parties.
* Ability to exercise good judgment with integrity, dependability and objectivity.

Physical Demands & Requirements
Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
