Job Title: Bioinformatician I- SOM-Cell and Molecular Biology
Job Summary: Performs data analysis and provides bioinformatics analysis on research projects related to complex human diseases, including model organisms.
Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in biological sciences with two years of bioinformatics experience or one year of bioinformatics experience with a certificate in bioinformatics, or a master's degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, statistical genetics, computer science or closely related degree.
C ERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED: NA
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Must have knowledge of general physiology and molecular biology, high-throughput genomic, genotype, and sequence data. Must have excellent skills in C, C++, Perl, Java, R, or Matlab. Experience with data from multiple genomic platforms, must have basic knowledge and experience in the use of existing bioinformatics tools and biological databases, as well as familiarity with cloud computing. Must have strong work ethic; the ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Must work in a highly interactive and collegial group. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Performs integrative analyses of genetic data, data integration with gene expression, pharmacogenomics and other related data. Understanding and familiarity with public genetic databases and methods to find and extract data from the databases (NCBI, UCSC, ENSEMBL, Encode, 1000genomes).
- Performs analysis of large datasets, including proteomic, genomic, and next generation sequence data. Pathway prediction, and computational analysis and functional characterization of noncoding and coding RNA's.
- Performs elucidation of the functional effects of SNP's and CNV's on cis regulatory elements in candidate genes.
- Provides training on bioinformatics-related concepts, applications, and tools..
- Contribute to the design, development, implementation, and testing of biocomputing tools as part of the genomics programs, initiate interdisciplinary collaborations with other departments, meet with genomic core customers, and assist core users with manuscript and grant preparation.
