Position Summary The Battery Cell Modeling Engineer will be responsible for developing physics- and data-driven model-based engineering approaches to improve our battery performance (kinetic performance, life degradation, calendar aging, electrochemical and thermal response, and safety-related behavior, etc.) and providing support for development of algorithms to effectively analyze large datasets. The Battery Cell Modeling Engineer will formulate, execute and own the experiments required to validate/train and further develop the models. This individual will be a key contributor in advancing NantG Power's competitive advantage to drive energy density, power density, safety, and materials sustainability improvements at scale. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of scientific achievement in the areas of Li-ion batteries, nanomaterials, and/or electrochemistry.
Primary responsibilities - Perform cell and module modeling in close collaboration with Battery R&D and Battery Testing teams
- Develop COMSOL/ANSYS multiphysics models of cells and modules
- Develop 1D mathematical models of electrochemical, transport, and other processes
- Develop algorithms to improve data analysis
- Maintain software licenses for modeling and data tools
- Stay current with state of the art in battery technology, model-based systems engineering practices and AI/data science methodologies/algorithms
- Produce regular technical reports to document models, validation, and other modeling initiatives
Job Qualifications - Ph.D. or Masters with 3+ years of industry experience in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering
- Expertise in electrochemistry, lithium metal and lithium-ion batteries, preferably multiple chemistries, battery management systems, testing and formation protocols, and systems integration
- Experience developing physics-based (COMSOL/ANSYS) and data-driven models for electrochemical, electrical, thermal, and mechanical applications
- Skilled with Python and MATLAB for increasing data processing efficiency and quality
- Experience with database systems and querying for data using SQL or similar querying language
- Project management and leadership experience

The pay range for this position is below. The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate's qualifications, prior experience.
Salary Range: $95,000 to $125,000 annually commensurate with education and experience.
This is the pay range the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of this posting. Compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position.
